Gauze Gauze Everywhere!

Today I'm working 2-10 pm with Louise. Lucy is getting increasingly crabby with her pregnancy and it's a good thing that she is done at the end of this week.

Today we have 2 groups checking in as well as a family reunion. The reunion neglected to assign rooms to the different family members so it was a bit of a chaos scene at the check in desk for a little while.

A little kid's foot got cut up by beer bottle shards on the pool deck which is typical of the fact that since it isn't on anyone's list of responsabilities the pool deck never gets cleaned off. Additionally, our first aid kits are filled with nothing but gauze.

There are so many little things that we don't have that if I was in a position of authority we would have that it is really starting to get to me but I can't do anything about it. Like real first aid kits. Or written out directions to the train station an hour away. Or information about more than one winery in our brochure rack. Just beacuse only one winery ever sends brochures doesn't mean that we can't solicit other ones to provide our guests with a wider range of information, does it?

I guess I'm just frustrated in the disconnect between how I think that things should be and how they actually are. I know that (hope that) management is doing their best with what they have to work with but I feel like it isn't a matter of effort, it's a matter of decision making.

In other news:
There are many persistant rumours that with Lucy on maternity leave Joanne will be coming over from the sales department to take her spot in the front office because she spent a few summers as a front desk person and is a more senior member of the staff (apperently). While she does know how to do everything she needs to know how to do, I'm not sure about her customer service skills, time will tell apperently.

This development is complicated by the fact that Betsy is talking about quitting in a very serious way (not that hypothetical way that some people do) including her mother coming into the office and ranting at Tracy (who is in no way Betsy's boss). She's threatening to quit over the way that the restaurant treats her, which is perfectly valid because they treat her horribly, but Lonnie has no idea how to do anything but schmooze so..who knows.
Looks like they'll be dusting off that pile of resume's they havnt looked at since I got there in May.
